Airport authorities can open checked baggage during the screening process without the presence of the passenger from Friday in a new regulation to increase aviation safety.
Airports of Thailand Plc reminded all flyers of the new luggage rule, which takes effect at all airports in Thailand on Friday.
The new guideline by the Civil Aviation Authority of Thailand (CAAT) permits authorities to open any baggage suspicious of containing prohibited items during the screening process despite no presence of the owner.
Authorities will record a video during the inspection and place an inspection notice inside the baggage to inform the passenger, according to the aviation regulators.
The CAAT recommends air travellers not to put valuables, important documents and prohibited items in checked luggage to avoid inspection. Items banned from checked luggage include explosives, firearms and power banks.
