October 2026 Video Game Releases: Full List And Highlights

Grand Theft Auto 6 isn't launching until November, but if anything, that's made October into an even busier month than usual. With few games wanting to compete directly with the juggernaut crime saga, September became a particularly popular release window, and that momentum is continuing into this month with major releases like Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4.

From the long-awaited return of Castlevania to the third-person shooter prequel Gears of War: E-Day, there's plenty to look forward to in the next 31 days. Of course, it's also the spooky season, and it'll be possible to pre-game Halloween and ramp up the scares with a number of new horror releases.

Call Of Duty: Modern Warfare 4 Is Hard To Ignore

Last year was a bit rough for Call of Duty, but the long-running FPS franchise is back in 2026 with its usual yearly installment. Love it or hate it, the new title is sure to pick up plenty of players at launch, so it's hard to ignore as a major October release.

The new Modern Warfare campaign tells the story of a fictional war between North and South Korea. Multiplayer, meanwhile, will feature the return of the DMZ extraction shooter mode alongside a typical array of competitive maps.

Gears Of War: E-Day Is A Promising Prequel

For those who prefer third-person to first-person — or are simply looking for a shooter alternative — Gears of War: E-Day could be the perfect title to pick up instead of Modern Warfare 4. Its status as a prequel to the Gears of War series should make it a reasonable entry point even for newcomers, and everything the game has shown so far has been promising.

Unfortunately, Gears of War: E-Day's planned status as a multiplatform title was ultimately retracted, so this one won't be an option for PlayStation loyalists. On Xbox and PC, though, it could be a great October option.

Phantom Blade Zero Dials In The Action

Phantom Blade Zero is an action RPG for those who care about style, focusing on blade-to-blade combat with plenty of elegance and flair. While it might look like another Soulslike at a glance, it's not quite that, blending more traditional action game elements (and its own ideas) into the mix.

Regardless, Phantom Blade Zero should make for an interesting challenge, and it has real potential to be one of the most compelling games released this month (or this year).
