Sunday kick-off for Springboks vs Wallabies Test in Perth

The Springboks will have little time to celebrate their historic series victory over the All Blacks, with their next Test already less than two weeks away.

South Africa will face Australia in a one-off Test at the Optus Stadium in Perth on Sunday, 27 September, with kick-off scheduled for 11:30 (SA time).

The match is expected to provide an opportunity for several fringe players, with head coach Rassie Erasmus likely to select a largely second-string squad after the demanding four-Test series against New Zealand.

The Perth clash will be followed by the Springboks’ end-of-year tour and the conclusion of the Nations Championship.

Reflecting on memorable series win

For now, however, captain Siya Kolisi says the squad is still reflecting on a memorable Rugby’s Greatest Rivalry campaign, which South Africa won 3-1 following Saturday’s 43-28 victory in Baltimore.

“The support is really special for us – that’s who we do it for; the people who can afford to come here and those who are at home,” Kolisi said.

A lengthy stoppage for referee audio problems during the Baltimore Test gave the players an opportunity to take in the atmosphere.

“In that moment, you get to appreciate the crowd singing and enjoying the environment and hopefully we have made it special for them,” Kolisi added.

Moment of prayer

The match ended with a special show of respect between the two rivals as the teams shared a moment of prayer.

Kolisi said the gesture reflected the relationship between the Springboks and All Blacks despite their fierce rivalry.

“We came together to thank each other. We go hard against each other, but we get along off the field,” he said.

“It’s tough that one team has to win and one team has to lose but we know we are going to see each other again.”
