Prabowo-Gibran highlights energy achievements in first two years

Jakarta (ANTARA) - The administration of President Prabowo Subianto and Vice President Gibran Rakabuming Raka has recorded several achievements in the energy sector during its first two years in office, the Government Communication Agency (Bakom) said.

Bakom Deputy for Partnerships and Media Relations Kurnia Ramadhana said the efforts included increasing domestic oil production, developing renewable energy, saving foreign exchange through biodiesel, and expanding electricity access in remote areas.

“Energy self-reliance is one of the government’s focuses in laying the foundation for national transformation,” Ramadhana said in a statement on Sunday.

In 2025, oil lifting, including natural gas liquids, met the state budget (APBN) target for the first time since 2016.

In addition to boosting domestic energy production, the government has strengthened biodiesel use to reduce dependence on fuel imports. Throughout 2025, implementing the mandatory B40 biodiesel blend saved Rp130.21 trillion in foreign exchange.

The effort continued with the launch of the mandatory B50 biodiesel blend in July 2026. The policy is estimated to save up to Rp170 trillion in foreign exchange while targeting an end to diesel imports.

Meanwhile, the government has accelerated renewable energy development through a solar power plant program with a targeted capacity of 100 gigawatts peak (GWp).

President Prabowo launched the program on August 25, 2026. Its initial phase covers 14 projects with a combined capacity of 5,216 megawatts peak (MWp), or around 5.2 GWp.

The government aims to build solar power plants with a combined national capacity of 100 GWp within three years as part of efforts to increase renewable energy use. The government is also working to expand access to electricity through the Village Electricity Program, particularly for communities in areas not yet connected to the power grid.

“Throughout 2025, the program was implemented at 1,516 locations and reached 77,616 customers. In 2026, the government continues to implement the program to expand electricity access to remote areas,” Ramadhana said.

The government has also been developing waste as an energy source through the Waste-to-Electricity Energy (PSEL) Program.

In April 2026, the government signed cooperation agreements to develop waste-to-energy projects in three priority areas: Greater Denpasar, Bekasi City, and Greater Bogor.

In addition to these three areas, the government has prepared to accelerate cooperation in 12 other urban agglomerations as part of its national waste-to-energy development plan.

These programs form part of the government’s broader policy agenda to strengthen energy security, reduce dependence on imports, develop renewable energy sources, and expand public access to energy.
