Code orange declared at hospitals in Mackenzie, Prince George
Police say multiple people have been injured in a bus crash on Highway 39 south of Mackenzie, a small community about 160 kilometres north of Prince George.
Northern Health says a code orange has been declared at both the local Mackenzie hospital and the University Hospital of Northern B.C. in Prince George in relation to the crash.
A code orange designation is declared for disaster or mass casualty events, and the term casualty applies to both injuries and deaths.
The health authority said it still doesn't have details to share on the number of patients or their conditions.
Health officials are asking people in Mackenzie and Prince George to avoid going to the hospitals’ emergency departments unless they are facing a life-threatening emergency.
The public has been asked to avoid the area of the crash, and Highway 39 is expected to be closed for several hours.
