(Asiad) S. Korea beats Chinese Taipei to qualify for men's volleyball quarterfinals
NAGOYA, Japan, Sept. 28 (Yonhap) -- South Korea defeated Chinese Taipei to secure a spot in the quarterfinals in men's volleyball at the Aichi-Nagoya Asian Games on Monday.
Outside hitter Heo Su-bong led the offense with 18 points and opposite Im Dong-hyeok added 16 points, as South Korea prevailed 3-1 (24-26, 25-10, 25-15, 25-23) for its second straight win at Park Arena Komaki in Komaki, just north of the main host city, Nagoya.
South Korea will next face China on Tuesday for a chance to win Pool D. China has also won its first two matches.
South Korea is seeking a return to the podium after placing seventh in 2023.
South Korea dropped the opening set while struggling with their serve receive, but responded with some hard serves in the second set and third sets.
Then in the fourth set, South Korea trailed 22-21 before Heo's spike and Lee Sang-hyeon's block flipped the score to 23-22.
Chinese Taipei got a point back to pull into a tie, but South Korea scored the next two points to close out the match.
