The New Taipei City Government’s Department of Environmental Protection is to host the New Taipei City 2026 International Youth Climate Action Forum(新北青年氣候論壇) on Oct. 22 on the 17th floor of the Banqiao Shinban Financial Building, with online registration open until Oct. 19.

The event has 100 places available to the public and is open to anyone interested in sustainability. It is to bring together climate experts, youth groups and young climate advocates from Taiwan and abroad for cross-border discussions and case studies.

Held under the theme “From Ideas to Impact,” the forum aims to encourage young people to turn climate ideas into concrete action and contribute to Taiwan’s transition toward net-zero emissions, the city government said.

Now in its sixth year, the forum has evolved from a focus on raising climate awareness to promoting concrete youth-led initiatives, the city government said.

In 2024, New Taipei launched its “Open Call for Youth Climate Action,” guiding participants through four stages: a call for proposals, empowerment, implementation and a showcase.

The number of submissions has risen from 10 in 2024 to 38 this year, reflecting growing interest among young people in sustainability and climate action, the city government said.

This year’s proposals focus on four areas: energy design, the circular economy, ecological conservation and public engagement.

Eight of the 38 teams advanced to the implementation stage, where they are receiving guidance from mentors as they test and validate their ideas in real-world settings.

The forum is also to showcase the work of the eight Taiwanese youth teams and feature international youth advocates sharing their experiences and approaches to climate action.

The city government said international exchange should go beyond simply “seeing the world” and instead promote the principle of “Global Vision, Local Action.” By learning from international examples and adapting effective approaches to local circumstances, young people can develop solutions suited to Taiwan while sharing the nation’s sustainability efforts with the international community.

Climate action does not have to begin with large-scale projects, the city government said, adding that small observations and simple questions in daily life can lead to meaningful change.

New Taipei is committed to providing young people with a platform to experiment, refine their ideas and gain exposure for their work, it said.

Those interested in attending can register online by Oct. 19. Registration is available at https://forms.gle/BsxyRe9hHjsfxrZ19.
