Dunk & Egg Officially Return In Game Of Thrones: The Scattered Banners

While Game of Thrones fans still don't have an official release date for Season 2 of A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms, it's very likely to arrive sometime next year. AKOTSK's first season was a breath of fresh air for longtime fans of George R.R. Martin's Dunk & Egg stories, introducing what felt like a return to the early days of HBO's Game of Thrones, with a smaller-scale, character-focused story that stands in sharp contrast to the sprawling dynastic conflict and dragon-heavy spectacle of House of the Dragon.

While fans wait for Dunk & Egg's return, there's a lot to keep them preoccupied, with a brand-new Kingsroad season launching for Asian markets, the recently completed Season 3 of House of the Dragon, and a major new Dragonseeds seasonal arc for the free mobile strategy game, Game of Thrones: Conquest.

However, if you're in the market for Dunk and Egg content specifically, you're in luck, as the iconic duo officially return in Game of Thrones: The Scattered Banners later this month (via GoTL).

Thanks to a broad overhaul to Game of Thrones: Legends' faction system, Ser Duncan the Tall and Egg are joining forces again in a reworked Brotherhood Without Banners faction, now titled The Scattered Banners. They join forces with unexpected Legendary Champions from across the Game of Thrones universe, including Jaime Lannister's trusty sidekick, Bronn, Robb's betrothed and tragic Red Wedding casualty, Talisa Stark, Daenerys side-piece Daario Naharis, and the enigmatic master assassin Jaqen H’ghar.

This motley crew of beloved Game of Thrones characters from across the Seven Kingdoms are based on "those who roam the lands in search of glory or to help others. Hedge Knights, Mercenaries, Pirates, Medics, or those spreading their gospel. The Scattered Banners take on many different forms," according to the new announcement.

The upcoming faction reorganization will also introduce a brand-new keyword for The Scattered Banners, though developers say they "don’t have an exact timeline for when this will come in" and will keep players posted with any updates.

The larger overhaul is designed to address several longstanding problems with Legends' faction system, particularly with roster depth, a lack of recognizable characters in some groups, and Champions that currently belong to no faction at all. Developers say player data shows that faction-based Champions are generally more popular, while smaller groups such as the Boltons and Brotherhood have been difficult to expand with compelling characters.

Players shouldn't have to wait much longer to see most of those changes in action, as Zynga currently expects the broader faction overhaul to go live in late September 2026, although individual additions tied to it may arrive later. Alongside The Scattered Banners, the update will transform the Boltons into The Way of Whispers, expand the Free Folk into Beyond the Wall, rework the Greyjoys as Lords of the Tide, and introduce the entirely new Sun's Dominion faction.

The update also adds new stats, adjusts faction bonuses, and introduces additional dual-faction Legendary Champions as part of the effort to make team-building more flexible. Overall, it's an exciting time to be a Game of Thrones: Legends, and the faction update is sure to change the game up in positive ways when it launches later this month.
