Concrete mixer truck crashes into Bekasi bus stop, killing 6

A fatal crash involving a concrete mixer truck that rammed into a bus stop in Rawalumbu Subdistrict, Bekasi City, West Java, on Sunday afternoon claimed six lives.
"The victims were waiting for the bus at the bus stop. Six people were killed on the spot," Bekasi Traffic Police Law Enforcement Unit Head First Inspector Rojali said at the crash scene.
He said the accident occurred at around 4:30 p.m. local time when the truck, bearing plate number B 9548 MV, lost control while traveling westward down a slope on Cut Mutia Road toward the Rawa Panjang area.
The driver reportedly attempted to bring the vehicle to a halt by steering it into the gate of a nearby private campus.
However, the attempt failed, and the concrete mixer truck crashed into a nearby bus stop where commuters were waiting, before overturning on its side.
"There were a total of 12 casualties in the crash," Rojali said, confirming that six people were killed.
Rojali noted that five bodies were taken to Bekasi Regional General Hospital, while another victim was transported to Siloam Rawa Panjang Hospital.
Meanwhile, four injured victims were evacuated to Juwita Hospital and two others to Siloam Rawa Panjang Hospital.
Police have taken the truck driver into custody for questioning, while the vehicle owner has been instructed to assist in removing the wrecked truck from the scene.
