Zelensky should get ‘somebody else’ to negotiate to end Ukraine war, Trump says

US President Donald Trump on Monday said he thought someone other than Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky should negotiate on Kyiv’s behalf as it seeks to end the war with Russia.
“Maybe it’s time for Zelensky to get somebody else to negotiate,” said Trump, who on October 10 had called for Ukraine to replace the president.
Trump also told reporters that Russia has been “fine” with regards to Ukraine. “They haven’t been doing much,” he said.
Trump added that the US continued to share intelligence with Ukraine and said he would consider allowing Ukrainians to stay in the US under temporary protected status until the war ended.
Also on Monday, US Secretary of State Marco Rubio denied that Washington is restricting the sharing of intelligence on Russian attacks with Kyiv.
There has been “no pause” in intelligence sharing, Rubio told journalists in Uzbekistan, after Zelensky criticised his country’s allies for failing to provide advance warnings of Russian ballistic missile strikes overnight.
While Rubio said he could not comment on the latest strikes, he denied Zelensky’s claim that critical early-warning data on Russian missile launches were suspended last week.
“I don’t know where he’s getting these things from or why he’s saying these things to the press,” said Rubio. “What he should be focused on, and what we want to be focused on, is bringing an end to this war.”

On Sunday, Zelensky said the United States had resumed sharing intelligence with Kyiv, after days of escalating tensions between him and US President Donald Trump over the latter’s decision to suspend tariffs on Russia in favour of a diesel deal.
But Zelensky wrote on Monday that Russia had targeted energy facilities and other infrastructure across several regions, leaving at least 550,000 households without electricity.
“Another Russian ballistic missile attack came in several waves overnight, and once again, there was no early warning from our partners,” he wrote, warning that deliveries of missiles for Ukraine’s air defence were being “blocked”.
Moscow was said to have deployed 16 ballistic missiles at Kyiv, and its surrounding area. Other regions were also reportedly attacked by more than 200 drones.
According to officials, a 21-year-old woman was killed in Kyiv. Eight other people were injured.
Elsewhere, at least two people were killed in a Russian missile strike on the southeastern Ukrainian industrial city of Kryvyi Rih, Zelensky’s birthplace.
Seven others were injured, the military governor of the Dnepropetrovsk region, Oleksandr Hanzha, reported on Telegram on Monday.

The attack was reportedly directed at an unspecified industrial enterprise.
The Ministry of Defence in Moscow confirmed attacks on Kyiv and the surrounding area.
In the Kharkiv region of eastern Ukraine, at least six people were killed in a Russian drone attack, the region’s military governor said on Monday. “Three children are among the dead,” Oleh Syniehubov said on Telegram.
The attack struck a centrally located park in the settlement of Nova Vodolaha, around 30km (18.6 miles) southwest of the regional capital, Kharkiv.
Zelensky said in a post on social media that a shahed drone had “struck people directly – in a park near an ordinary café”.
