FG begins new power project in Kaduna
The Federal Government has commenced a new electricity project in Rigasa community, Igabi Local Government Area of Kaduna State, to improve power supply after nearly 15 years of inadequate electricity.
The project, being executed by the Niger Delta Power Holding Company Limited, comprises a two-kilometre 11kV line, a 1.5-kilometre 33kV line and a 7.5MVA, 33/11kV injection substation to strengthen electricity distribution and improve access for residents and businesses.
According to a statement by the NDPHC General Manager, Corporate Communications and External Relations, Nazo Agim, the project reached a major milestone on Friday with a groundbreaking ceremony performed by the Kaduna State Deputy Governor, Dr Hadiza Balarabe, who represented Governor Uba Sani.
Balarabe commended NDPHC for the intervention, describing it as a life-saving initiative that would ease the community’s longstanding electricity challenges.
The statement said the project was facilitated by the Bola Ahmed Tinubu Ideological Group, following sustained advocacy by its convener, Comrade Bamidele Atoyebi, who repeatedly presented the community’s electricity challenges to NDPHC Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer, Jennifer Adighije.
Speaking through the Executive Director, Networks, Bello Babayo Bello, Adighije reaffirmed the company’s commitment to supporting President Bola Tinubu’s vision of improved electricity supply nationwide.

She described the Rigasa project as a worthwhile investment that would alleviate residents’ hardship and demonstrate the impact of targeted infrastructure development.
In his vote of thanks, the Executive Director, Strategy and Commercial, Patrick Obahiagbon, appreciated the Kaduna State Government and the community for their cooperation and support.
The District Head of Rigasa, Hakimi Mohammed Aminu Idris, also commended NDPHC’s management for its commitment to expanding electricity access.
The company said the project underscored its commitment to extending critical power infrastructure beyond generation to bridge electricity gaps, stimulate socio-economic development and improve the quality of life in underserved communities across the country.
