Why Galatasaray Want Osimhen To Skip Super Eagles AFCON Qualifiers

Translate

The Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) and the management of Turkish side Galatasaray are in talks over the participation of top striker Victor Osimhen in Super Eagles AFCON qualifiers games later this month, OwnGoalNigeria.com reports.

Nigeria will be involved in AFCON 2027 qualifiers opening their campaign at home against Madagascar on the 25th, before travelling to keep a date with Guinea-Bissau in Morocco four days later.

Osimhen pulled up injured in September 4, 2026, during Galatasary’s 3-2 win against İstanbul Başakşehir. He scored in the 16th minute but felt discomfort in his right groin and was substituted off in the 33rd minute.

His expected time of return is projected to be around two to three weeks, and if it extends beyond two weeks he will definitely miss the Super Eagles games in the AFCON qualifiers.

However there is a chance that he will be fit to play for Galatasaray against Trabzonspor this week, pending on how he recovers in the coming days.

Despite that Galatasaray have reached out to the NFF, with a plea for the 27 year old to be left out of the games, for him to make a complete recovery from an issue that has somehow become persistent.
