EU Parliament adopts resolution calling for Muslim Brotherhood to be added to terror list

Translate

The European Parliament has adopted a resolution calling for a coordinated European approach to addressing “Islamist entryism and Muslim Brotherhood networks" and for the Muslim Brotherhood to be added to the EU terror list.

Resolution P10_TA(2026)0342 was adopted on Thursday with 381 votes in favor, 167 against and 15 abstentions.

The resolution refers to Islamist entryism as an "unacceptable form of covert and malicious interference aimed at weakening democratic institutions, the rule of law and the neutrality of public institutions."

It condemns Islamic entryism for "spearheading efforts to roll back women’s rights and gender equality, sexual health and reproductive rights, LGBTIQ+ rights, equality between women and men, freedom of conscience, freedom of expression, public order and social cohesion."

The resolution then stresses the Parliament’s opposition to legitimizing networks that seek to undermine established civil institutions.

Calls for a common European approach to identifying Islamist entryism

The text calls on EU Member States to develop a common European approach to identifying signs of Islamist entryism, including what it describes as the use of "doublespeak" in religious and political discourse. It also calls on the Council to include entities and individuals linked to the Muslim Brotherhood on the EU list of terrorist organizations.

The text also calls for greater scrutiny of European funding and stronger safeguards to prevent EU financial resources from reaching individuals or organizations that may threaten democratic institutions and fundamental freedoms. It specifically singles out Qatar and Turkey for increased scrutiny over foreign funding.

Massad Boulos, Trump's Senior Advisor for Arab and African Affairs, welcomed the resolution's adoption.

He wrote on X/Twitter that the United States is taking decisive action against Muslim Brotherhood chapters involved in terrorism and destabilizing activities, and that it encourages "continued cooperation with our European partners to combat terrorism, disrupt violent extremist networks, and protect our shared security."
