Harlan Coben fans! ITV's "rollercoaster" drama from Fool Me Once boss gets first look before release

ITV has released first-look images and a trailer for its upcoming drama Adultery, a new six-part series created and written by Danny Brocklehurst, who previously penned Harlan Coben adaptations including Fool Me Once, Stay Close, Missing You and Run Away.

The plot follows teenagers Jess and Ollie as they embark on a blossoming romance, but when Jess' father Tom (played by Dominic Cooper) and Ollie's mother Beth (played by Romola Garai) meet, the sparks between them are obvious.

As the title of the show implies, Tom and Beth getting together is a bad idea that risks ruining both of their marriages.

ITV's official synopsis reads: "The provocative love story raises questions about class, grief and the effects of social media, as it takes the viewer on a rollercoaster story of passion, parenthood and peril, as Tom and Beth embark upon a passionate and intense love affair that threatens to uproot their whole lives.

"Adultery is naturally authentic and bristling with passion as it focuses upon two families and messy complications."

The newly-released pictures show Tom and Beth getting intimate, as well as Jess and Ollie, played by Leila Khan and Johnny Sanpher respectively.

The cast also includes Matthew McNulty as Beth's husband Neil and Shelley Conn as Tom's wife Hannah. James Murray and Charley Webb play Tom's brother and sister-in-law respectively.

Andrew Knott plays Dave, the ex-husband of Beth's recently-deceased best friend, with the trailer revealing that he's got some very incriminating footage on his phone.

Viewers don't have to wait long for this one, as it will be releasing sometime in October.

Brocklehurst has multiple projects in the pipeline, including Roald Dahl's Tales of the Unexpected for Netflix and a "caper drama" titled After the Move to Nevada for Disney+.

Adultery will come to ITV and STV in October.
