The 21-year-old native of New Taipei City’s Luzhou District won a bronze medal at this year’s Asian Games in Nagoya, Japan, with lifts of 95kg in the snatch and 122kg in the clean and jerk for a total of 217kg.
With her medal haul on Friday, Chen improved on her showing at the 2024 World Weightlifting Championships, where she bagged one silver and two bronze medals.
Taiwan sent eight male and eight female weightlifters to this year’s competition, which runs through Nov. 8.
The event counts toward qualification points for the 2028 Los Angeles Olympics.
However, the women’s 57kg category is not among the six weight classes at the Los Angeles Olympics.
According to the International Weightlifting Federation, the women’s Olympic categories are 53kg, 61kg, 69kg, 77kg, 86kg and over-86kg.
