Arsenal eased to victory over Manchester City in the Community Shield to claim the first silverware of the new season.

The Premier League champions made the perfect start when Riccardo Calafiori fired home inside the opening minute, setting the tone for a dominant display from Mikel Arteta's side.

Arsenal doubled their advantage through Kai Havertz in the 28th minute, before captain Martin Odegaard wrapped up the win with a third shortly after the interval.

For Enzo Maresca, there will be plenty to ponder after his first competitive match in charge following his taking of the reins in the summer, with just a week remaining before the Premier League season gets under way.

Good low save to deny Erling Haaland on 20 minutes at his near post, dropping down very quickly. Further top stops, too. Arsenal are a different team with him.

Ben White - 7.5/10

Plagued by injuries in recent years, including at the end of last season. But his resurgence is promising. Good overlaps forward, a signature of his best work.

Gabriel - 7.5/10

Very much up for the battle, Haaland a keen target after what happened at the World Cup. Roared after a tackle on 23 minutes. Snarled away.

Cristhian Mosquera - 7/10

Found himself one-v-one with Haaland at times. Benefited from his pace and kept up with the Norwegian. Stepped up to the task.

Riccardo Calafiori - 7.5/10

Neat finish after one minute was an important marker. Gets into such funky positions in final third which is hard for teams to set-up against.

Martin Odegaard - 9/10

Ran the show in midfield. A real captain’s display. Sharp cross in build-up to Kai Havertz’s header. Good anticipation to beat the defender with a touch to score.

Bruno Guimaraes - 7/10

Charged around with intent. Kept looking to progress the ball and didn’t shy away from challenges. His early physical challenge on Jeremy Doku got the crowd up.

Myles Lewis-Skelly - 7/10

Sublime pass between two Man City players set Calafiori on the way to score. A crucial moment. Wriggled past players, offensively minded.

Noni Madueke - 5.5/10

Enjoyed a lot of the ball, particularly in the first half, but struggled in end product. The will was there - yet the execution needed to be better.

Kai Havertz - 7/10

Bundled the ball home with a header which trickled under Gianluigi Donnarumma. Held the ball up well and kept looking to get between the channels.

Christos Tzolis - 8/10

Two assists - for Odegaard and Havertz - in a spirited showing. Amid Arsenal’s pursuit for a pricey left winger, the Greek isn’t giving up his place easily.

Abdukodir Khusanov – 4.5/10

Hugely culpable for that Havertz goal, allowing Tzolis to run off him unchecked in the build-up. Unusually tentative all game as well.

Ruben Dias – 5/10

Struggled with runners in behind. Committed to aerial duels that he lost and left City in trouble on the break. But not the only one who was below-par.

Josko Gvardiol - 5/10

Distribution really poor out from the back, giving the ball away far too many times. Too slow in reacting to Martin Odegaard’s run for the third.

Nico O’Reilly - 6/10

Clearly rusty after joining up with the squad on Wednesday but dealt with Noni Madueke without much help from elsewhere. Useful minutes if nothing else.

Elliot Anderson – 5.5/10

Needs more dynamism next to him if he is to become the success that City expect. Obviously short on match practice after the post-World Cup break.

Mateo Kovacic – 4.5/10

Failed to show enough bite and lacked physicality to cover ground defensively, which points to why City are looking at doing additional business in midfield.

Antoine Semenyo - 6/10

Excelled on the left wing in pre-season and wasn’t nearly as effective on the right. A couple of bright moments in creating opportunities and a late shot.

Phil Foden – 5/10

Won’t want to see the first goal back, not strong enough with Lewis-Skelly. Flitted in and out. One dangerous effort while too often just recycling possession.

City were most threatening when Doku was involved positively. Went at his marker and tried to drive forward to varying success.

One proper sight of goal, denied brilliantly by Raya, but an overwhelmingly frustrating afternoon against highly motivated Arsenal central defenders.
