Penang launches ONEMAP+ to track CCTVs, AEDs, and EV chargers across the state

GEORGE TOWN, Aug 22 — The Penang state government has launched ONEMAP+, a new digital platform designed to map the locations of closed-circuit television (CCTV) cameras, automated external defibrillators (AEDs), and electric vehicle (EV) charging stations across the state.

Chief Minister Chow Kon Yeow unveiled the platform during the Penang2030 Festival Lite KOMTAR 2026, describing it as a convergence of technology, public safety, health, and mobility data.

“One map, many uses. One platform, many benefits,” Chow said.

“Penang ONEMAP+ brings data and technology closer to the people, especially information that can help in daily life.”

Developed by PLANMalaysia Penang and the state Information and Communications Technology Division, the initiative incorporates data from the Penang Green Council, the Penang Island City Council (MBPP), the Seberang Perai City Council (MBSP), and the Penang Health Department.

A primary focus of the platform is enhancing public safety and urban mobility. As of this year, Penang has installed approximately 1,977 CCTV cameras across the island and mainland. By making these locations transparent, the state aims to improve public awareness and security.

Simultaneously, the platform addresses the growing demand for green energy infrastructure. With roughly 460 EV charging stations statewide, ONEMAP+ allows users to easily identify the nearest charging facility.

To further this goal, Chow also launched a new EV charging station at McDonald’s in Batu Kawan, stressing the need for continued expansion to encourage the adoption of electric vehicles.

Critically, it also maps the location of AEDs, which are vital during cardiac arrest emergencies.

Chow noted that over 40 lives in Penang have already been saved through the use of AEDs, suggesting that such devices should be expanded to high-intensity areas like badminton courts, where individuals often push their physical boundaries.

The "plus" in ONEMAP+ signifies that the platform is in its first phase, with plans to regularly update and expand its components, Chow explained.

“Being a smart state is not merely about having more technology, but ensuring that technology brings real benefits to the people, in line with the Penang2030 vision,” Chow added.

Users can access ONEMAP+ via the Penang Smart Parking app. The current version lists 1,977 CCTVs, 439 AEDs, and 494 EV charging stations.

Siti Mazrishah Mohamed Ibramsah, chief assistant secretary of the state Information and Communications Technology Division, revealed that future updates will include locations for tourist destinations, eateries, clinics, hospitals, and bus stations as more data is collated.
