PAS muktamar to debate Umno ties and Muslim unity, says Takiyuddin

KUALA LUMPUR, Aug 25 — A motion addressing political cooperation between Umno and PAS will be tabled at the Islamist party’s upcoming annual muktamar, PAS secretary-general Datuk Seri Takiyuddin Hassan said today.

Speaking after attending the forum “Reality and Perception: Don’t Politicise Tabung Haji”, Takiyuddin said that bridging ties across the Malay-Muslim political landscape is a central pillar for the party assembly, FMT reported.

“One of the motions that will certainly be discussed is Muslim unity, as well as political cooperation between PAS and Umno. That will be one of the motions that must be tabled,” he told reporters.

This comes after confirmation on Sunday by Umno president Datuk Seri Ahmad Zahid Hamidi that his party had accepted an invitation and will dispatch an official delegation to the muktamar.

Turning to state-level electoral strategies, Takiyuddin revealed that discussions between Perikatan Nasional and Barisan Nasional regarding a pact for the impending Melaka state election are making encouraging headway, even as a formal deal remains pending.

“We have started negotiations but have yet to reach a final decision. We are still discussing the method and form of cooperation that will be implemented.

“However, the negotiations so far have been very positive. I can say that they are very positive,” he said.
