MMDA flags asphalt contractor over heavy traffic on Edsa

MANILA, Philippines — The contractor behind the asphalt works from Guadalupe to Shaw Boulevard on Epifanio delos Santos Avenue (Edsa) could be fined P50,000 over the heavy traffic caused by the road work on Sunday, Aug. 23.
The Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) said this on Facebook on Monday, as it shared photos of the traffic slowdown from Makati to Mandaluyong.

The agency said it had already coordinated with the Department of Public Works and Highways, which is leading the Edsa Rehabilitation Project, to impose a fine on the contractor.
The MMDA pointed out that the contractor “fail[ed] to deploy flagmen at the site who could have helped manage traffic and guide motorists.”
