Sony has found itself in hot water this year, with multiple announcements that have caused many users to finally give up on the PlayStation after being valued customers for the past three decades.
Not only have PlayStation Plus subscribers had to deal with constant price increases over the past few years, but Sony shocked users this year when it announced that, by 2028, it would be adopting a digital-only future. As such, upcoming PlayStation consoles will not include a disk tray, and, as such, physical games for the PlayStation will no longer be manufactured, in the hopes of creating a digital-only future.
Whilst there is no denying that physical media does not have the same popularity it did 30 years ago when the PlayStation first launched, many of us do still enjoy the feeling of cracking open a box (especially if it's a steelbook), and inserting a disk into our console.
Despite the news causing many PlayStation users to boycott any upcoming releases from Sony, the company has doubled down on its decision, which leaves the future in question.
However, that has not stopped Sony from still working on brand-new releases, especially when it comes to the DualSense Controller. As we already know, it is not uncommon for some of PlayStation's biggest first-party releases to come alongside a dedicated controller, and things are set to be no different for the Gran Turismo franchise.
Over on Twitter/X, the official PlayStation UK account shared an image of the brand-new Gran Turismo Limited Edition DualSense wireless controller, which is set to launch on 10 December, with pre-orders opening on 22 October.
As you can imagine, the controller is decked out much like a racing car, with the standard white background complete with black, red, and blue decals, including racing stripes, badges, and 'Gran Turismo' tatted on the side.
This release comes as part of the Gran Turismo 7 Spec IV update, and to help celebrate 30 years of the racing franchise as a whole. So, if you are a fan, there may be no better way to showcase your love for the series than with this limited-edition controller.
"Inspired by the craftsmanship and engineering at the heart of Gran Turismo, this limited edition DualSense wireless controller pays tribute to 30 years of The Real Driving Simulator," the official PlayStation blog post reads. "Racing stripes and motorsport-inspired graphics are paired with a textured, carbon-fibre-style front plate, bringing elements of automotive design and performance to the controller."
Not only that, but Kazunori Yamauchi, the owner of the Gran Turismo series, made the following comment:
“Thirty years ago, Gran Turismo began with a vision to share the beauty and joy of the automobile. This commemorative controller celebrates the journey we have shared together, and I am deeply grateful to everyone whose passion continues to inspire us.”
The Gran Turismo Limited Edition DualSense wireless controller will be available in limited quantities globally for a recommended retail price of $84.99 USD/ ¥12,480 (including tax)/€84.99/£74.99. As the blog post concludes, "Pre-orders begin on October 22 at 10:00am local time direct from PlayStation (where available), as well as participating retailers. The DualSense Wireless Controller – Gran Turismo Limited Edition controller launches globally starting Dec. 10."
