Gundam is celebrating 40 years of video games with a new anniversary broadcast. The franchise will be celebrating its overall 50th anniversary in a few years, but this livestream will apparently just focus on video games. With Gundam: Rogue Orbit launching in 2027, expect to see some new information on that game as well. There's also a giveaway currently happening related to the 40th anniversary celebrations.

The announcement comes via Gundam Perfect Games on X, but details remain a little scarce. "Gundam Games 40th Anniversary Live Stream Confirmed," reads the post, translated from Japanese. "To commemorate the 40th anniversary of Gundam games, a livestream has been confirmed! We plan to hold the stream around the end of October 2026. Please stay tuned for further details!"

There's no release date given, but "around the end of October" is at least a fairly slim window. The 40th anniversary celebrations were expected to have giveaways at Tokyo Game Show this year, but those were canceled shortly before the event. Now, it looks like a few giveaways are still underway through online entries. It looks like only fans in Japan are able to participate at this time, however.

There's also a bit of confusion over which Gundam game is exactly marking the start of the 40th anniversary. As several comments mention on X, at least one game arrived in 1983, which was actually 43 years ago. Mobile Suit Z Gundam: Hot Scramble released in August 1986 for the Famicom (NES), so it seems likely that's being considered as the first, even though Arcadia Mobile Suit Gundam is considered the first-ever home console video game, and it's from 1983.

Whatever the reasoning, Gundam's 40th anniversary livestream will be arriving in about one month from now. In the meantime, the Gundam Card Game is releasing new Starter Decks, including a few in September, so maybe that can ease the wait a bit. We know Rogue Orbit will release in March 2027, but there's always the chance the livestream will include some surprises. Is it too much to hope for a shadowdrop of a Mobile Suit Z Gundam: Hot Scramble remaster? Probably, but a guy can hope.

More details, including the actual release date, will hopefully be announced soon. With a new timeline officially starting in March, and a number of merch releases related to Rogue Orbit to follow, it's a great time to be a Gundam fan either way.
