Orlando Pirates news & transfers: Foster, Appollis, Mbokazi

Translate

Orlando Pirates players, past and present, continue to make news during the international break. Oswin Appollis has rumoured admirers in Europe.

Ex-Orlando Pirates star Foster in the wilderness

Bafana Bafana have made a perfect start to life under Pitso Mosimane with three wins from three. They’ve beaten Eritrea and Guinea in AFCON qualifiers and got the better of Egypt 1-0 in a friendly in Cairo. Pitso Mosimane has trialled several combinations and players, with the likes of Brookleyn Poggenpoel, Puso Dithejane, Luther Singh and Tashreeq Matthews used against the Pharaohs. 25-year-old striker Lyle Foster debuted for Houston Dynamo last weekend, on loan from Championship side Burnley, but he is out in the wilderness for Bafana. Is that a hint that Pitso Mosimane has no plans for him in the future?

Oswin Appollis wanted in Portugal and France

The Via Siseko Gwewge, French Ligue 1 side, Strasbourg, is monitoring Oswin Appollis’ performances at Orlando Pirates. This follows rumoured interest from Portuguese giants Porto. The 25-year-old shone against Eritrea in a recent 5-0 win, bagging three assists, matching a feat he also achieved against Congo in 2024.

MTN8 final next for the Sea Robbers

Pirates will defend their MTN8 crown on Saturday, 10 October, in the final against rivals Mamelodi Sundowns. Kickoff is at 15:00.

When is Mbokazi back?

Mbekezeli Mbokazi played 80 minutes for Chicago Fire in their recent MLS win over Charlotte. The 20-year-old was cut down by a thigh injury in July and was initially expected to be out for the remainder of 2026, but the stocky left-footer is back ahead of schedule. TLB, as he is affectionately known, made a goal-line clearance to preserve the points for the Fire away on September 27th. He’s expected to return to the fold when Bafana meets Kenya on November 11th in an AFCON qualifier.
