Esha Singh wins individual silver in 25m pistol after missing team event medal

Esha Singh battled through multiple shoot-offs before finishing with a silver medal in the women’s 25m pistol at the 2026 Asian Games, adding another individual medal to her Asian Games record.The world No. 1 and world-record holder finished the final with 38 hits, the same score as China’s Xiao Jiaruixuan, who won gold. Esha’s 4+2 record in the shoot-offs left her second, while Xiao finished with 4+3.

Esha’s route to the podium was far from straightforward. After the elimination stages, she was involved in an intense battle with South Korea’s Kim Hyon Suk for third place. Esha had to negotiate three shoot-offs against the Korean before securing her place in the medal positions.She then had to go through two more shoot-offs against Xiao to determine the gold and silver medals. Kim, who eventually took bronze, finished with 34 hits, while Vietnam’s Trinh Thu Vinh was fourth with 30. China’s Shang Kaiyan finished fifth with 24.

The silver adds to Esha’s record at the Asian Games. At the 2023 Hangzhou Games, she won silver in the individual 25m pistol and gold in the team event.At the ongoing Games, Esha had earlier missed out on a medal in the women’s 25m pistol team event, with India finishing fifth.Her medal also adds to India’s shooting haul at the Nagoya Asian Games, with the country continuing to pick up medals across individual and team events.
