Terence Winter To Adapt Jay Stratton’s ‘Out Of The Shadows’ Memoir About Investigating Unidentified Anomalous Phenomena As TV Series

Terence Winter (Boardwalk Empire, Tulsa King) is set to develop a TV series based on the upcoming memoir by former senior U.S. intelligence official Jay Stratton, s central figure in the U.S. Government’s modern investigation of unidentified anomalous phenomena (UAP) and non-human intelligent life. Winter has partnered on the project with Dan Farah, director/producer of the recent UAP documentary The Age of Disclosure, who had acquired the film and TV rights to the book.

As the Chief of Air & Space Warfare in the Defense Warning Office of the Defense Intelligence Agency, Stratton specialized in emerging and disruptive aerospace technologies, ultimately focusing on investigating UAP.

“In the early days of my investigation into UAP and non-human intelligent life, my work was so classified I couldn’t even tell my wife and kids that I had learned we are not alone in the universe or about any of the paradigm shift information I was learning,” Stratton said. “I had to live a double life, where the front door to my house served as a boundary between two distinct identities… but that all changed when we started having UAP activity and encounters with non-human intelligent life at our house and my wife and kids saw it with their own eyes.”

Winter, who executive produces via his Cold Front Productions, noted that Stratton’s story has elements of some of his favorite shows and movies, Homeland, The Americans, The Hunt for Red October, All The President’s Men, Spotlight, and The Big Short.

“For all of human history, mankind has wondered whether we are the only intelligent life in the universe,” Winter said. “Jay Stratton’s shocking true story answers that question and more as it delves into the world of the U.S. Government’s investigation of UAP and non-human intelligent life. It’s a riveting journey into a world the public knows little about.”

Stratton’s memoir Out of the Shadows will be published in the U.S. by HarperCollins imprint William Morrow on Oct. 13.

“Out of the Shadows has the propulsive storytelling of a high-stakes political thriller,” Farah said. “It brings you behind the scenes of the U.S. Government’s investigation of the biggest mystery of all time. At the center of the story is the deeply personal, harrowing toll Jay’s pursuit of the truth had on him and his family. We intend to fully explore that in our show.”

Winter, an Oscar nominee for The Wolf of Wall Street, won four Emmys for his work on The Sopranos. He created and executive produced HBO’s Boardwalk Empire and most recently served as executive producer/showrunner on Taylor Sheridan’s Paramount+ series Tulsa King. Winter is repped by CAA.

Farah’s producing credits also include Ready Player One, directed by Steven Spielberg, and the series The Shannara Chronicles, starring Austin Butler.
