A 1999 PlayStation 1 Classic Is Finally Returning In 2027

It wasn’t long ago that Silent Hill was stuffed into a casket and suffocated by mounds of dirt. Miraculously, the popularity of the franchise has persevered for 27 years, through thick and thin, and the brand arguably hasn’t had as much potential today as it did following the release of Silent Hill 4: The Room in 2004. Of course, an enormous proponent of its modern-day success was Bloober’s Silent Hill 2 remake, which exceeded expectations in every regard.

Since then, Silent Hill f and Silent Hill: Townfall have been commendable efforts, and certainly more novel or intriguing takes on the franchise than we’ve received in decades. It’s unknown if Bloober itself will ever be tasked with developing an original Silent Hill game, but it could certainly be pioneering a new era of remakes for Silent Hill. Its remake of Silent Hill 2 makes the thought of Bloober remaking the first Silent Hill game sweeter, and this upcoming game may be arriving a lot sooner than you might have predicted.

As per MP1st, Bloober’s remake of Silent Hill 1 is supposedly aiming to be released in 2027. Additionally, this report claims that there are two names attached to the remake that have emerged, though it’s undetermined who they’re cast as, if legitimate: Gabrielle Fritz and Jade Matthew. There’s admittedly little to go off of in this rumor, unless fans are content to dip backward in a history of rumors that have stirred, but this one isn’t as far-fetched as the others.

No official announcements have been made in terms of its rumored release window, and copious grains of salt should be taken until there’s been confirmation from Bloober or Konami. However, a 2027 release for Bloober’s Silent Hill 1 remake actually makes all the sense in the world, considering that Silent Hill has been on an impressive hot streak for the last few years.

For instance, the Silent Hill 2 remake launched in 2024, Silent Hill f launched in 2025, and Silent Hill: Townfall launched in 2026. The Silent Hill 1 remake launching in 2027 would be consistent with this incredible output, but it’s also seemingly only a matter of time before this streak is broken, whether that’s due to unforeseen circumstances or the arduous, unenviable precedent this annual release schedule would hoist onto developers’ shoulders.

Perhaps there’s a grand plan devised to ensure that a new Silent Hill game or remake will be released every year, without fail or compromise, for the foreseeable future. It seems like there’s a low likelihood of that actually being the case, though, and the Silent Hill 1 remake being released in 2027 could be a happy coincidence, rather than part of a premeditated strategy. And, it’s equally probable that, even if it is targeting a 2027 release window, it could be struck with a delay that nudges it out of 2027 and into 2028 anyway.

Either way, this remake arriving as early as in several months would make 2027 a phenomenal year for horror. In fact, it’d be quite a nostalgic year for survival horror, especially, with Bloober’s remake of Silent Hill and Capcom’s remake of Resident Evil Code: Veronica hearkening back to their respective franchise’s classic eras.

The game that started it all, Silent Hill, is the first title released in the Silent Hill Franchise in 1993 for the original PlayStation console. Silent Hill defied conventions by putting combat in the background and giving players control of Harry Mason, a man with no combat training searching for his adopted daughter in the mysterious town of Silent Hill. Harry's arrival in the town is disorienting, and he soon discovers the town is home to a cult trying to revive a dark deity they believe will bring the world to order.
