Hosted this year by NBC’s own treasure, Mariska Hargitay, the broadcast may be just the thing to celebrate the network’s 100th anniversary. This concludes the two-part ceremony that began last week. Prizes went to Shailene Woodley and Betty Gilpin for their guest roles on Paradise and Widow’s Bay, respectively, while the beloved Rob Reiner was granted a posthumous award for The Bear.

Hargitay Puts Her Own Spin on Nicole Kidman’s AMC Speech

Hargitay got sentimental about television before turning the Emmys stage into an AMC Theatres ad — with Nicole Kidman sitting right there to watch it happen.

The Law & Order: SVU star, hosting the 78th Primetime Emmy Awards, opened by talking about television as a shared experience and its ability to bring people together. Then she quickly undercut the earnestness with a familiar line: “Somehow, heartbreak feels good in a place like this.”

If that sounds familiar, there’s a reason. Hargitay was spoofing Kidman’s now-famous AMC pre-movie advertisement, which has become a pop-culture fixture since its debut. And Kidman happened to be in the audience for the joke.

Kidman immediately played along, accusing Hargitay of stealing her line as the bit landed with the crowd.
