SINGAPORE – A motorcyclist died in hospital after an accident on the BKE on the morning of Aug 21.

In reply to queries from The Straits Times, the police said that they were alerted to the accident – which involved two motorcycles – on the BKE towards the PIE at about 11.30am that day.

A 32-year-old male motorcyclist was taken conscious to hospital, said the police.

A 45-year-old female motorcyclist was taken unconscious to hospital, where she subsequently died, the police added.

ST has contacted the Singapore Civil Defence Force for more information.

Motorcyclists and pillion riders were involved in 54.8 per cent of all traffic accidents and accounted for 53 per cent of deaths in 2025, despite motorcycles comprising only about 15 per cent of Singapore’s total vehicle population.

The number of accidents involving motorcyclists has increased, rising from 3,973 cases in 2024 to 4,227 in 2025, based on annual road traffic statistics. The number of motorcyclist and pillion rider casualties also rose from 4,510 in 2024 to 4,844 in 2025.
