‘Ebenezer’ New Trailer: Johnny Depp’s First Hollywood Studio Movie in 8 Years Reimagines ‘A Christmas Carol’

Paramount Pictures has released a second trailer for “Ebenezer,” Ti West‘s spooky take on the classic “A Christmas Carol” starring Johnny Depp as the grumpy, holiday-hating Scrooge.

The logline for “Ebenezer” is simply: “The name you know, the story you don’t.” Judging from the trailer, West — known for directing the horror trilogy “X” — is zooming in on the darker aspects of Charles Dickens’ beloved story, showing Depp’s character being haunted by some seriously scary ghosts and getting buried alive.

Alongside Depp, “Ebenezer” boasts an ensemble including Rupert Grint, Andrea Riseborough, Sam Claflin, Daisy Ridley, Arthur Conti, Ellie Bamber, Henry Lloyd-Hughes, Charlie Murphy, Tramell Tillman and Ian McKellen.

The film is also a major comeback vehicle for Depp, who hasn’t starred in a Hollywood studio film since his highly publicized 2022 trial against ex-wife Amber Heard. Both Depp and Heard accused the other of domestic abuse and defamation during their relationship, with Depp ultimately awarded $10 million in compensatory damages and $5 million in punitive damages from Heard, while Heard was awarded $2 million in compensatory damages. His last Hollywood movie was 2018’s “Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Grindelwald,” and he was dropped from the third “Fantastic Beasts” movie “The Secrets of Dumbledore,” which came out in 2022.

“Ebenezer” is set to hit theaters on Nov. 13 from Paramount. Depp will follow it up with “Day Drinker” from Lionsgate, a thriller also starring Madelyn Cline and Penélope Cruz that’s set to release in March 2027.
