Netflix's near-perfect mystery thriller TV show is just hours away from its long-awaited return, as a new chapter of the series is set to begin. Netflix has been home to a number of high-profile mystery thriller TV shows in its time. From the success of multi-season shows like The Night Agent to miniseries such as those based on Harlan Coben's novels, the streaming service has always delivered plenty of high-octane thrills across the genre. This includes some international series that have taken the world by storm.

One such show is the French drama Lupin. Beginning in 2021, the heist thriller follows the exploits of Assane Diop (Omar Sy), the son of a Senegalese immigrant who grows up on his own after his father is framed for the theft of an expensive diamond necklace. His employer, the aristocratic Hubert Pellegrini, framed him for the robbery, leaving Assane to grow up without his father. Now, years later, Assane has become a thief inspired by the fictional character Lupin, using disguises and trickery to enact revenge against the Pellegrini family.

New seasons of the show have aired periodically across its run on Netflix, with Lupin season 4 about to be the next big release. The forthcoming eight-episode season is set to be released on Friday, October 23 on Netflix at 3:01am ET (12:01am PT). All episodes will drop at the same time, delivering a new and exciting chapter in Assane's many heist efforts. The main character continues to be the center of the show, but, after the harrowing events of season 3, there will be some core changes coming to the series too.

It's Been Three Years Since Lupin Released A New Season On Netflix

Season 3 was released in October 2023, making it three years since the show released its latest batch of episodes. Lupin season 3 ended on a major cliffhanger, with Assane imprisoned and the future of the rest of his team up in the air. The end of the final episode reveals he's in the same prison as Hubert Pellegrini, which lays the groundwork for a very different approach upon the show's return. Season 4 will be a long-awaited follow-up that finally reveals how this cliffhanger will be resolved.

According to Netflix's description, Lupin season 4 will see a number of thefts attributed to "Lupin" happen while Assane is in prison. It appears to be laying the groundwork for a copycat thief, someone who he may have to go head-to-head with despite currently being imprisoned. For now, there's no word yet on what this will mean for him and the other core characters moving forward. But, since there are eight episodes dropping at the same time, any number of twists and turns are possible.

Lupin Is One Of Netflix's Most Successful Shows Of All Time

Lupin season 4 is a highly-anticipated return, considering the show is one of the most popular Netflix has ever produced. Reviews for Lupin have been overwhelmingly positive; the show currently holds a 98% on Rotten Tomatoes critic average across all three released seasons. Season 1 is the Number 5 most-watched non-English language TV show of all time on the platform, while season 2 is Number 9 in the same category. The series' popularity makes its return all the more compelling, and ensures plenty of interest when the episodes arrive.

Question 1 of 3

Now that Lupin is on its way back, the series can finally offer viewers answers to their pressing questions, three years after they were first asked. Season 4's fast-approaching arrival means Netflix subscribers won't have to wait long to learn about what happens to Assane, Hubert, and the many other vital characters that orbit around their conflict. It seems the the show will be both familiar and new, ushering in brand new expectations for how the show will play out.
