Bank Indonesia, Trade Ministry align for global modest fashion hub

Bank Indonesia (BI) and the Ministry of Trade are working together to advance Indonesia’s ambition of becoming a global modest fashion hub through strategic initiatives aimed at strengthening the domestic fashion industry.

To support the effort, the two institutions are integrating the Indonesia International Modest Fashion Festival (IN2MOTIONFEST) and Jakarta Muslim Fashion Week (JMFW), according to a statement received here on Tuesday.

BI Director of Sharia Economy and Finance Ndari Surjaningsih said the integration of the two events is intended to strengthen the modest fashion value chain by expanding capacity-building efforts and market access for wastra (traditional textile) artisans and businesses.

“Standing together on one national stage, both institutions have agreed to collaborate toward the same goal: strengthening Indonesia’s position as a global hub for modest fashion,” she said.

Surjaningsih added that the central bank is also mobilizing its regional offices to support the development of modest fashion among artisans and businesses across the country.

Meanwhile, Ari Satria, a senior analyst at the Trade Ministry’s Directorate General of National Export Development, said the joint initiative is designed to connect Indonesian modest fashion brands and businesses with prospective buyers and partners in international markets.

“This synergy is expected not only to enhance the competitiveness of Indonesian modest fashion products in global markets but also to create business and transaction opportunities while expanding long-term access to export markets,” he said.

Satria emphasized that expanding market access forms part of the government’s ongoing efforts to ensure that the Indonesian modest fashion industry continues to grow in creativity and production capacity while meeting global market demand.

The collaboration, dubbed IN2MOTIONFEST X JMFW, will feature exhibitions, wastra business-matching sessions, and programs designed to help local businesses enter international markets.

In addition, a series of fashion and trade shows will involve more than 300 designers, brands, micro, small, and medium enterprises, and participants in BI’s Indonesia Sharia Creative Industry (IKRA) program, showcasing modest fashion products distinguished by Indonesian styles and local wisdom.

Ten guest designers are expected to attend the event, including participants from India, Malaysia, Türkiye, the United Arab Emirates, Uzbekistan, Taiwan, South Korea, and the Philippines.

To strengthen industry capacity, the initiative will also feature the Indonesian Modest Fashion Trend Forecasting 2027/2028, masterclasses, workshops, and the Industry Forum & Summit.

IN2MOTIONFEST X JMFW is scheduled to take place from October 14 to 18, 2026, at the Jakarta International Convention Center under the theme “Indonesia’s Integrated Modest Fashion Ecosystem: Transforming Modest Fashion Brands into Global Businesses,” as part of the Sharia Economic Festival.
