Al-Wasl Of UAE Midfielder Popoola Confirms Super Eagles Invitation

Like we exclusively reported one week ago 19 year old midfielder Ridwan Popoola has officially confirmed his invitation to the squad of the senior national team of Nigeria, OwnGoalNigeria.com reports.

Popoola who made a shock decision to leave Al-Wasl despite interest from top teams around Europe, owing to his performances for Hungarian side Kisvárda impressed head coach of Nigeria Eric Chelle.

Nigeria will be involved in AFCON 2027 qualifiers opening their campaign at home against Madagascar on the 25th, before travelling to keep a date with Guinea-Bissau in Morocco four days later.

However Popoola is not expected to be involved in any of the above mentioned games, but will be a part of the team for the friendly game against Russia on the 6th of October in Moscow.

Chelle who also doubles as head coach of the Nigeria U23 team wants to use the game to try out players he intends to use, in his quest to end Nigeria’s absence from the football event of the Olympic.

Although some senior players will be involved, the team like we exclusively reported will be made up of players who are eligible for the U23 team of Nigeria, who will begin their quest to be at the Los Angeles Olympic in November.
