Journalists' Syndicate: Sick and injured journalists in Gaza face harsh conditions and need medical evacuation

RAMALLAH: The Palestinian Journalists' Syndicate said that journalists and media workers in the Gaza Strip are facing exceptional and harsh conditions amid the ongoing genocidal war carried out by Israeli occupation forces.

The Syndicate said that journalists and media workers in the Gaza Strip are working in an extremely dangerous environment amid shelling and displacement, deteriorating humanitarian conditions, the collapse of large parts of the healthcare system, and shortages of medicines and medical supplies.

According to Palestinian news agency (WAFA), the syndicate, in a statement issued on Thursday, said that the suffering of journalists is not limited to the risks of being killed or injured while carrying out their work, but also extends to dozens of cases of serious injuries and illnesses requiring surgeries and specialised medical care that is not sufficiently available inside the Strip, noting that 40 journalists in the Strip need medical evacuation and treatment abroad.

It stressed that the issue of sick and injured journalists whose conditions require urgent medical evacuation outside the Gaza Strip has become an urgent humanitarian and human rights issue, particularly in cases involving serious neurological injuries, limb injuries, chronic illnesses, or requiring specialised surgery and rehabilitation.

The syndicate affirmed that continued delays in treatment or denial of access to appropriate medical care could lead to deterioration in the health conditions of the affected journalists and further endanger their lives. — BERNAMA
