Keanu Reeves is the face of some of the most legendary franchises of all time, from The Matrix to the ever-expanding John Wick saga. However, Reeves is also the creator and soon-to-be star behind another great action franchise. And now, with the next installment of this ‘Highlander meets John Wick’ epic on the horizon, it’s the perfect time to get caught up.

While Keanu Reeves has an exceptionally passionate fanbase that religiously follows his movies, his BRZRKR series has slipped under the radar, even among some of his most die-hard fans, largely because the story unfolds across comic pages rather than the silver screen. The story follows an immortal warrior named B, a half-human, half-godlike being who has spent 80,000 years fighting his way through human history. As a result, BRZRKR combines the relentless, brutal action of John Wick with the iconic Highlander premise of an immortal warrior who has lived through centuries of human history.

Since the main series' release, BRZRKR has continued to expand its legacy with miniseries and one-shots. And now, BOOM! Studios has confirmed yet another addition to the BRZRKR legacy with the announcement of the upcoming November 18, 2026, release of BRZRKR: City of Darkness #1.

City of Darkness is slated to be a 55-page one-shot available for $9.99 at release. Instead of Reeves leading the charge in this installment, as he did with the main series, this BRZRKR story will be brought to life by the creative team of veteran writer Mike Costa and artist Kenny Wong.

As mentioned, one thing that makes BRZRKR stand out in the action genre is that its story spans 80,000 years of human history. Hence, throughout B’s multiple series and one-shots, the character has appeared across various notable times in history and locations around the world. Now, in City of Darkness, this latest entry will take place in Hong Kong in 1994, only a few years before the historical handover of Hong Kong from the UK to China.

The official synopsis further teases: “A brutal triad gang war is spilling into the streets in a flood of blood and bullets, and a young Triad’s life is about to change forever as he steps into the shadow of the BRZRKR! Into this wave of heroic bloodshed enters B, with a centuries-long wrong to right, and ten thousand bullets to do it with.”

Based on this synopsis alone, it's clear this one-shot will follow in the footsteps of previous installments, delivering hyper-violent action while also setting the story against real-world history. Even for those who aren’t typical comic readers, they’ll want to seriously consider jumping into this series, especially since BRZRKR is being adapted into a live-action movie for Netflix that will star Reeves. With this in mind, the comic series will ultimately give long-time fans a taste of what is about to become Keanu Reeves’ latest and greatest movie legacy.
