On Monday, Baresi was one of 14 individuals to be have their name inscribed in the Famedio in the Cimiterio Monumental, one of the two largest and most prestigious cemeteries in the city of Milan. This has been described as ‘one of the highest honors’ by the club in a statement that was released on Monday afternoon.

“The City of Milano today honored Franco Baresi, AC Milan’s legendary Captain, by inscribing his name in the Famedio at the Monumental Cemetery, a memorial dedicated to the figures who have shaped the city’s history and identity,” AC Milan wrote.

Monday’s ceremony was conducted in the presence of Baresi’s family, mayor Giuseppe Sala and AC Milan ambassador Daniele Massaro.

“This city holds extraordinary reserves of passion, creativity and industry,” said the mayor at the ceremony on Monday. “This energy is rooted in centuries of experience, restoring confidence in Italy and the ability to look to the future with optimism. Gathering here today at the Famedio means rediscovering a pride in what Milan has been able to achieve in so many different fields thanks to the contributions of these irreplaceable individuals.”
