Assistant coach Aaron Danks has given an encouraging update on Vincent Kompany, saying the Bayern Munich boss is on track for a “full recovery” after two weeks away from the club.
Kompany collapsed during a reserve team training session on Oct. 23 and was taken to hospital, where he was treated for meningeal irritation, an inflammation of the tissue surrounding the brain or spinal cord.
“I’ve had a few really good phone calls with Vince,” Danks said. “He seems very positive and appears to be well on the way to a full recovery. The international break provides a good opportunity to reflect and see when he can return.”

Danks will again lead the team when Bayern face Mainz in the Bundesliga on Saturday, their fifth match since Kompany’s collapse. An international break follows, so Bayern’s next fixture is not until Nov. 20.
A lot has happened while Kompany has been away. Harry Kane became the first Bayern player in 45 years to win the Ballon d’Or and signed a contract extension. Bayern also drew with rivals Borussia Dortmund, beat Atletico Madrid on Wednesday and dealt with a run of injuries.
Since Kompany left hospital to recover at home, the club has kept soccer matters out of his conversations as a matter of policy.
Kane conceded that Kompany may not have known beforehand when his contract extension was announced on Thursday.
