Jakarta (ANTARA) - The match between Indonesian and Malaysian national teams in the second Group A match of the FIFA ASEAN Cup 2026 in Jakarta on Monday could see a full house.

The match, set for 7:30 p.m. local time at Gelora Bung Karno Main Stadium (GBK) Jakarta, had already sold 56,000 tickets by Monday noon.

According to an official statement from the Indonesian Football Association (PSSI) on Monday, the number is expected to keep rising amid growing enthusiasm among Indonesian team supporters to watch the duel between the two neighboring countries live on the international stage.

The Indonesia-Malaysia match also carries significant weight in the Group A standings. Both teams currently have three points from their opening matches, with Malaysia leading on goal difference and Indonesia sitting in second place.

The situation came about after Malaysia defeated Bangladesh 3-0 in their first match, while Indonesia beat Singapore 2-0.

With only the group champion advancing to the FIFA ASEAN Cup 2026 final, tonight's duel is expected to be tight and intense, as it offers both teams a chance to strengthen their position at the top of the standings.

The rivalry between the two countries has made this match even more highly anticipated. Malaysian striker Bergson previously described the Indonesia-Malaysia rivalry as similar to a match between Brazil and Argentina.
