  Portugal opens its UEFA Nations League title defence against Wales at the Estadio Jose Alvalade in Lisbon on Thursday, September 24, under new head coach Jorge Jesus, taking charge for the first time following Roberto Martinez’s exit after the team’s Round of 16 World Cup exit.

  All eyes will be on Cristiano Ronaldo, who could start after being named in Jesus’s 25-man squad, with the coach calling the 41-year-old Portugal’s “symbol.”

  The Al-Nassr forward, football’s all-time leading international scorer with 146 goals, is 21 goals from the milestone of 1000 career goals, with retirement talk still swirling.
