Netflix is seeing the resurgence of an action movie with a major sequel on the way featuring none other than Brendan Fraser. Fraser's list of movies and TV shows includes several high-profile releases over the years. On the small screen, he joined the DC universe as Cliff Steele, aka Robotman, in Doom Patrol. On the big screen, Fraser became famous for his roles in movies like George of the Jungle, Encino Man, and The Whale, the latter being the project that finally saw Fraser win the Best Actor Oscar and cemented a career renaissance.
That said, there is no denying that Fraser's biggest franchise and chapter of his career started back in 1999 with the release of The Mummy. As Rick O'Connell, he starred in one of the most electric, funny, and downright entertaining adventure movie franchises of all time. Fraser starred in three The Mummy movies between the original's release in 1999 and 2008's The Mummy: Tomb of the Dragon Emperor. As he gets ready to return to the hit franchise with 2027's The Mummy 4, Fraser is now seeing the original The Mummy come back to life on Netflix around the world.
Fraser's The Mummy Is A Massive Netflix Hit
At the time of writing, The Mummy stands tall as the 3rd most-watched movie on Netflix worldwide, according to FlixPatrol. This marks rapid growth for the adventure movie on the coveted chart. The Mummy joined Netflix's global Top 10 Movies chart on September 29, when the film ranked 7th. Merely a day later, The Mummy had risen to 3rd, the spot it continues to hold on the chart. Fraser's The Mummy leaves behind some major releases, such as the Robert De Niro Netflix Original crime thriller The Whisper Man, Dwayne Johnson's Black Adam, Jason Momoa's A Minecraft Movie, and more.
Of the movies The Mummy has surpassed on Netflix's global chart, there is a special connection to Black Adam. After all, The Rock first played The Scorpion King in 2001's The Mummy Returns, later getting to lead his own spin-off titled after the character. As for the only two movies above Fraser's The Mummy on Netflix's global chart, those are the animated Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba Infinity Castle, and Russell Crowe's Mindhunter-esque psychological thriller Unabomber, at 1st. According to FlixPatrol, The Mummy is currently trending on Netflix in 46 countries. The adventure movie is not streaming on Netflix in the United States.
The Franchise Just Made Its Way To Another Streaming Home
The Mummy, as well as its sequel, The Mummy Returns, arrived on Peacock in the United States this Thursday, October 1, as part of a huge lineup of Halloween-related projects on the streamer. As such, there is a huge chance they will find similar success on Peacock in the US to what the franchise is experiencing internationally on Netflix. The Mummy's streaming resurgence comes after the first The Mummy 4 set photos featuring Fraser came out, showing his return as Rick O'Connell, who could be seen driving a rocket car and apparently owns his own racing team years after the events of The Mummy.
