Bihar: 5 killed, 2 injured as speeding bus ploughs into crowd watching orchestra

Five people died and two others were injured after a speeding bus allegedly ran over them while they were watching an orchestra programme organised as part of the Chhathi ceremony of a newborn in a village near Lauriya in Bihar’s West Champaran late Friday evening, police said.
The crowd spilled onto the road while watching the programme when a speeding bus allegedly lost control and ploughed into the gathering around 11pm at Bankatwa Parautola, Lauriya’s station house officer (SHO) Inderjeet Paswan said.

“The gathered crowd spilled onto the road while watch the orchestra show. Suddenly, a speeding bus en route to Bettiah from. Gorakhpur lost control and ploughed into the gathering and as a result five people died and two were injured,” the station house officer said.
Two people died on the spot, while three died during treatment at a government hospital, Narkatiaganj’s sub-divisional police officer (SDPO) Jai Prakash Singh said.
The bus driver sped away with the bus but later fled, leaving the bus behind. The bus was seized by police, an officer said.
