WEATHER: Spring makes a comeback in Gauteng after cold and rainy week

Translate

Spring weather is set to make a welcome return to Gauteng this week, with temperatures expected to climb after a cold front brought chilly and wet conditions to the province.

The cold front brought heavy rain, thunderstorms and hail to parts of Gauteng last week, causing significant disruption in Pretoria and leaving thousands of residents without electricity.

Parts of Pretoria were particularly badly affected by the severe weather, with residents in Pretoria East spending days without power after one of the area’s major substations was damaged by a fire.

The cold spell was felt across several provinces, with Gauteng, North West, Free State, Limpopo and Mpumalanga experiencing unusually low temperatures. In some areas, temperatures remained in the low teens as rain continued for three consecutive days.

However, conditions are expected to improve significantly this week, with warmer spring weather returning across Gauteng.

Pretoria will experience partly cloudy conditions on Sunday, with temperatures reaching a high of 23°C. Temperatures are expected to increase from Wednesday, climbing to around 28°C, while no significant rainfall is expected.

Johannesburg will start the week on a cooler note, with Monday temperatures ranging from a minimum of 10°C to a maximum of 21°C.

The mercury will gradually rise as the week progresses, with Johannesburg expected to reach a high of 28°C on Thursday.

Warm weather for Gauteng

The warmer conditions are likely to continue into next weekend, with temperatures expected to reach 30°C in some parts of Gauteng.

After last week’s cold and disruptive weather, residents across the province can look forward to a return to warmer, more typical spring conditions.
