Maldini hospitalised after scoring winner in Atalanta 1-2 Cagliari

Multiple outlets in Italy are reporting that Daniel Maldini ended up in hospital, but that he was not seriously injured, after a road traffic accident in Milan in the early hours of Sunday morning, shortly after his winning goal in Cagliari’s 2-1 victory over Milan. 

Maldini hospitalised but not seriously injured after car accident in Milan

According to reports from ANSA, Maldini was involved in a collision on via Caracciolo in the city of Milan at around 5.15 local time (4.15 BST), which also affected two women aged 20 and 22 and three other men aged 19, 20 and 21.

Three ambulances and a support car were called to the scene. None of the six individuals involved were seriously injured. One was treated at the scene for their injuries and the other five, including Maldini, were taken to hospital for further checks. 

Local authorities are still investigating the exact nature and cause of the accident. 

Maldini had spent the night in Milan following his involvement in the Serie A match between Atalanta and Cagliari in the nearby city of Bergamo.

Maldini plays for Cagliari, and scored the winning penalty in Saturday’s 2-1 Serie A victory over Atalanta, but was born and raised in the city of Milan and is a recent Atalanta player himself.
