OCD verifying 14 new reported deaths due to habagat

MANILA, Philippines — The Office of Civil Defense (OCD) on Monday said it is verifying 14 new reported fatalities due to the southwest monsoon or habagat, according to the data provided by Assistant Secretary Raffy Alejandro IV on Monday. 

Once confirmed, this will bring the total number of fatalities to 47, in addition to the current death toll of 33.

Nine of these new reported deaths were due to drowning in San Marcelino, Zambales.

Two of them reportedly died to two a landslide along SCTEX Subic Freeport Zone, and one other fatality also due to a landslide in Porac, Pampanga. 

Olongapo City and Tarlac’s Capas town reportedly saw one death each due to drowning. 

Meanwhile, Alejandro said additional four individuals were reportedly missing, due to the collapsed Agana Bridge in Tarlac City.

Once confirmed, this will bring the total number of missing from three to seven.

Habagat continues to affect Metro Manila and the entire Luzon and western section of Visayas, bringing overcast skies and scattered rains and thunderstorms, said the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical, and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa).

Tropical Depression Pilandok is also expected to enhance habagat, according to Pagasa. /mr
