DENR to distribute confiscated lumber to storm-hit Mindoro families

CALAPAN CITY, Oriental Mindoro — The Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) will distribute confiscated lumber to families in Occidental Mindoro whose homes were damaged by recent storms and the southwest monsoon, an official said.
The first set of beneficiaries will be families in Barangay Sta. Lucia in Sablayan, who will receive lumber through the Community Environment and Natural Resources Office (CENRO), said Anastacio Santos, CENRO officer for Sablayan.

Santos said Environment Secretary Juan Miguel Cuna ordered the lumber distribution as part of efforts to help communities affected by disasters.

DENR personnel will also travel to Poblacion in the town of Abra de Ilog on Wednesday, Sept. 2, to distribute lumber to 11 families. Four other beneficiaries in Barangays Tubili, Marikit and Alipaoy in the municipality of Paluan will likewise receive assistance, Santos said.
A total of 5,808.01 board feet of assorted lumber confiscated by the DENR will be distributed to the beneficiaries for the reconstruction of their damaged homes.
Santos said the initiative covers several barangays affected by the recent weather disturbances and is intended to provide families with materials they can use to rebuild their homes.
