007 First Light: Nintendo Switch 2 release date and what the developers have said

James Bond returned to gaming in a big way with 007 First Light racking up great reviews from critics and fans, but what happened to its Switch 2 version?

While the full game released on other platforms in May 2026, the Nintendo Switch 2 edition is still not out.

So, here's the story of what's going on with 007 First Light for the Nintendo Switch 2.

When is 007 First Light coming to Nintendo Switch 2?

007 First Light is scheduled to release on Nintendo Switch 2 in March 2027.

The Switch 2 version was initially delayed along with the game's full release, going from March to May.

This was subsequently delayed further, with IOI stating that the game would be coming in Summer 2026.

And now, IOI has released another statement, confirming that the game is no longer releasing in 2027 at all!

In the statement, posted to social media, the team explain that, "To ensure we deliver the quality of experience players expect, we have made the decision to delay the release to March 2027," before adding, "This additional time will go toward polishing the Nintendo Switch 2 performance of the game."

007 First Light's Switch 2 version was available to play at both Gamescom and the Tokyo Game Show, but clearly needs some more work before it's ready to land on shelves.

Thankfully, while a delay may seem like terrible news for the fate of 007 First Light on Switch 2, that may not necessarily be the case.

The game's director, IO Interactive CEO Hakan Abrak, told The Game Business that "It's running on the Switch 2. We just want to make sure it's good as it can be. I don't want to hear it wasn't a good version.

"To be completely honest, we need a bit more time to get it where we want it to be. We said summer. It's probably going to be late summer. But we're going to get it out."

Part of that insistence on quality comes from the franchise's iconic history on Nintendo consoles, in reference to GoldenEye 007 on the Nintendo 64.

"Bond has a special place on Nintendo. And I promise I will do everything I can, and I can do quite a lot being the CEO, to get that in a great shape.
