Boniface Benched, Tella Features As Leverkusen Edge Out Freiburg To Extend Winning Run
Bayer Leverkusen came from behind to beat Freiburg 2-1 at the BayArena today to extend their winning run and move into the top four of the Bundesliga.
Victor Boniface was an unused substitute while his Nigerian teammate Nathan Tella was brought on in the 59th minute.
While Boniface has played just one league match, it was Tella’s second appearance.
The win means Leverkusen have won their last three league matches and have recorded four wins and one draw in five league fixtures.
Freiburg, who came into the game unbeaten, took the lead in the 14th minute through Derry Scherhant, who finished off a move created by Niklas Beste and Philipp Treu.
Leverkusen responded almost immediately as Ibrahim Maza equalised in the 19th minute after good work from Moussa Diaby and Patrik Schick.

The game was tight after the break until Schick struck the winner in the 76th minute, tapping in after a brilliant solo run from Maza near the corner line.
The goal made Schick the first Leverkusen player ever to score in each of the first six Bundesliga matches of a season.
Leverkusen now have 13 points, level with Freiburg on points but ahead on goal difference, and just one point behind leaders Bayern Munich.
