Cody Rhodes tried wearing something different than his usual suits, and it didn't go over well at home. The Undisputed WWE Champion says his love for dressing up has gotten to where even his casual outfits get judged. He recently opened up about an incident involving his wife, Brandi Rhodes, Chelsea Green and Matt Cardona. He wanted to switch up his wardrobe, but it didn't go as planned. Rhodes ended up teased over polos that were apparently too fancy, and honestly, he was left wondering how a simple shirt became such a problem.
Cody Rhodes Explains How Wearing Suits Became His Go-To Style Outside WWE
On the Double Coverage podcast, Rhodes said the suit habit developed while he was away from WWE. Dressing well slowly became an everyday routine and not just something for TV appearances. Some of his fellow wrestlers first figured the suits were an act.
"I tell people, cause I think some of my peers for a long minute thought that the suits and stuff were real performative and maybe they were, but after a while it became this really great feeling. Felt professional."
Rhodes also talked about the pride he got from putting together a proper outfit. He tied it to the idea of dressing for the position someone wants, and said it became part of how he carried himself while working outside WWE. The catch is that the wardrobe got a little too predictable. Suits took over almost everything he owned, so he had fewer casual options whenever he wanted to dress differently.
Cody Rhodes Credits Ric Flair for His Suited-Up Image Before His WWE Return
There's a wrestling influence behind all this too. During the same appearance, Rhodes said he took inspiration from Ric Flair, mainly the flashy lifestyle and expensive-looking presentation. Much of his own style was borrowed from Flair and not from his father, Dusty Rhodes. He also pointed out the contrast between the two legends, since Dusty was known for a blue-collar, common-man presentation while Flair embraced the glamorous side of pro wrestling.
"A lot stolen from the Nature Boy, Ric Flair, as far as suited and booted and the whole concept," Rhodes admitted.
He called Flair the greatest of all time, too.
Next up for Rhodes is WWE Crown Jewel on November 7, where he's scheduled to face Randy Orton in a Last Man Standing Match in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia. In that match type, you win by putting your opponent down so they can't answer a ten count. The two have split their previous two matches, with Rhodes winning at WrestleMania 42 and Orton picking up victory in their September rematch.
