Bosco recalls Vivek lesson: Choreographer says he once felt slighted

Bosco Martis, the celebrated choreographer known for his work alongside Caesar Gonsalves as the duo Bosco-Caesar, recently opened up about an interaction he had with actor Vivek Oberoi in the early 2000s, following the success of Company (2002) and Saathiya (2002).

While Bosco admitted that Vivek’s response initially left him feeling hurt, he later came to understand the actor’s perspective and saw it as a lesson in professionalism.

Bosco Martis recalls calling Vivek Oberoi after a long time

During a conversation with Vivek on Bosco's YouTube channel, the actor spoke about maintaining a clear distinction between his personal relationships and professional commitments. As the discussion progressed, Bosco recalled reaching out to Vivek after not having spoken to him for a long time.“First, Company happened, and then Saathiya came along shortly after. I don’t want anyone to take what I am about to say the wrong way... I called Vivek during this period, after a very long time,” Bosco said.He went on to recall telling Vivek that he wanted to choreograph a song with him. According to Bosco, Vivek responded positively but then asked him to work out the creative concept and provide a detailed breakdown.

“I said, ‘Vivek, I want to do a song with you.’ You said, ‘Yes, we should definitely do it,’ and then you added, ‘Work out the creatives and give me a breakdown.’ Although I agreed, I felt hurt thinking about why you said that with so much attitude,” Bosco recalled.‘I eventually realised you were absolutely right’Bosco said that while he initially interpreted Vivek's response as an attitude-driven reaction, he eventually looked at the situation differently.

He realised that approaching an actor who had worked hard to establish himself as a star also required him to come prepared with a clear creative vision.“However, I eventually realised you were absolutely right. I am going to a star who has worked so hard to reach a certain level. I am a choreographer, and if I am approaching a star, I have to be prepared about how I can position him,” he said.The recollection also tied into Vivek’s larger point about separating professional relationships from personal friendships.

Vivek Oberoi on keeping work separate from friendship

Speaking about his approach to professional commitments, Vivek said that personal relationships should not influence how people conduct themselves at work.“Work is work, right? Kaam ko dosti aur yaari se alag hi rakhna chahiye (Work should be kept separate from friendship and camaraderie). You can’t take it for granted. If you do that, you will fall soon,” the actor said.The exchange highlighted how professional expectations can change as an actor's career progresses, while also reflecting on the importance of preparation and mutual respect between performers and technicians.
