Manchester United: What games Bruno Fernandes will miss after 'complicated' injury is confirmed

Fernandes started for Portugal in their 1-0 win over Wales on Thursday evening, but was replaced by Paris Saint-Germain midfielder Joao Neves as the game ticked into stoppage time.

It has since been revealed that the Man Utd star has been struggling with a “complicated problem” in recent weeks and it caused him to sit out Saturday’s final training session.

“In the game against Wales, we went in with all the available players but Bruno Fernandes came off with a complicated problem,” Jesus said during his press conference.

“We’ll see what happens until tomorrow. Experience tells me that on the third day not all players manage to recover but that’s the same for Norway as for us.

“However, the player who comes in gives as many guarantees as the one who might come off, that’s what I’ll base my decision on.

“The medical team identified these two players as the most concerning, Nuno Mendes could be available for the game.

“The other case [Fernandes] involves treatment and recovery time. He’s coming off an injury at United, and he told me he’s been playing with that pain for the last three games, which is hindering him.

“It was one of the factors that prevented Bruno from playing at his best against Wales.”

In a boost for Man United, Fernandes is set to be rested for Portugal’s showdown with Norway on Sunday evening as his fitness is being prioritised ahead of next week’s game against Denmark.

Jesus added: “I’ve already spoken to him and I prefer not to risk it in this game so he’s fully fit for the Denmark match.”

The best-case scenario for United is Fernandes misses the first Norway match but returns against Denmark and is then able to come through the second Norway meeting on October 4 unscathed.

Man United are back in action a week next Saturday when they host bottom of the table Tottenham at Old Trafford, hoping to kickstart their season.
