Former Kaizer Chiefs coach Nabi fired by Raja, blames sporting director

Former Kaizer Chiefs head coach Nasreddine Nabi has been sacked by Moroccan giants Raja Athletic Club just a few months after taking charge.

The 61-year-old Tunisian coach reportedly parted ways with the club following a fallout with Raja’s sporting director, with tensions behind the scenes making his position increasingly difficult.

Nabi spent 14 months in charge of Kaizer Chiefs before leaving the club after guiding Amakhosi to the Nedbank Cup in 2025.

According to Moroccan publication Al-Amq, Nabi experienced difficulties with Raja’s management and ultimately felt he could no longer continue working under the circumstances.

“Ten days ago, I told the management that it was difficult for me to continue working in these circumstances, so they informed the sporting director of the need to cooperate with me,” Nabi said as per GOAL.

“But after that, he went too far in his actions and his individualistic approach, and in the end, the management decided to favour the sporting director and continue the project with him.”

Nabi won the Nedbank Cup with Chiefs

Nabi also claimed that he was not consulted over some of the club’s transfer decisions, including the signing of a striker.

“I was not consulted by the sporting director, for example, about the signing of a striker; I only learned about him on the internet,” he added.

While Nabi accepted the decision to terminate his contract, he questioned the manner in which the situation was handled.

“I accept the decision to terminate the contract, but it was necessary to inform me months in advance of this intention, so that I would not start working in unfavourable conditions for me,” Nabi said.

The Tunisian coach has now coached three teams in just two years. He joined AS FAR in 2023 but lasted a year before coming to South Africa to coach Amakhosi.

After leaving Chiefs, Nabi was replaced with his assistant, Khalil Ben Youssef and Cedric Kaze.
