The National Telecommunications Commission (NTC) on Tuesday said it will monitor telecommunications services and emergency radio groups during the Undas period from Oct. 31 to Nov. 2 as cemeteries and memorial parks prepare for increased public activity.

In a statement on Tuesday, the NTC said it had directed its regional offices to coordinate with telecommunications service providers to address reported service concerns, particularly in areas expected to experience increased mobile network traffic.

Regional directors were also instructed to coordinate with local government units, law enforcement agencies, disaster risk reduction and management offices, and emergency response units to support public safety operations.

The NTC said its regional offices would monitor Civic Action Groups (CAGs) and Amateur Radio Groups (ARGs) conducting public service activities, including the locations of their personnel, assistance posts, assigned routes and radio base stations.

These groups may serve as additional communication links for emergency response and public assistance during the holiday period, the agency said.

NTC Commissioner Ella Blanca Lopez underscored the importance of coordination among government agencies and the availability of reliable communications to help ensure public safety during the annual observance.

The agency advised the public to follow safety advisories, take note of local emergency hotline numbers, keep mobile phones charged and maintain contact with family members.)— MCG, GMA News
